Jiu Jitsu & Self Defense

The
Gentle Art

Our goal is to take the inexperienced person to a point where they feel confident, in control, and ready to defend themselves in a variety of threatening situations using the fundamental principles of jiu jitsu.

"There is no losing in jiu jitsu. You either win or you learn."

- Carlos Gracie, Sr.

fundamentals

The Fundamentals classes are primarily for new students to ensure their journey begins with a focus on understanding and developing the core principles, concepts, foundational positions, and techniques applicable to self-defense and sport. This class applies repeated drilling and the application of learned techniques through a series of games and situational sparring to help our students strengthen and improve their technical know-how, speed, accuracy, and efficiency of basic jiu-jitsu techniques.

The primary goal of the Fundamentals class is to prepare students with street readiness to properly defuse and control an opponent with effective techniques that include distance management, clinching, striking, takedowns, and submissions.

Advanced / Mixed-Levels

The Advanced/Mixed-Levels classes are structured to take students to the next level through more in-depth concepts, principles, and advanced jiu-jitsu techniques. This class focuses on the sport aspect of jiu-jitsu and is catered for anyone that is looking to go above and beyond street readiness, and enhance fundamental movements into the world of deeper exploration of modern, sport-oriented jiu-jitsu. The Advanced/Mixed-Levels class is great for anyone looking to compete and gain a higher-level jiu-jitsu practice and experience.

These classes are managed according to students per location. Not all advanced programs are the same.

nogi jiu jitsu

The NoGi Jiu Jitsu classes focus on developing a fundamental and advanced understanding of jiu-jitsu concepts and techniques without the traditional kimono or gi. Students will learn and adapt their jiu-jitsu game in a nogi environment, incorporating wrestling fundamentals, takedowns, submission grappling, and combative (street awareness) scenarios. This class applies repeated drilling and the application of learned techniques through a series of games and situational sparring to help our students strengthen and improve their technical know-how, speed, accuracy, and efficiency of nogi techniques.

Students must wear the Rollstar nogi uniform or equivalent to participate in these classes.

Competition Training

For those looking to test themselves on the tournament mats, competition training offers the intensity, repetition, sparring, and rule reviews you need. Offered at limited times of the year and usually start 6-8 weeks before an upcoming tournament.

These classes are managed according to students and their interests in competition.

STRIKING PROGRAM

The Striking Program classes focus on understanding the core concepts, positions, and movements, such as stance, basic punches and combinations, using kicks, knees and elbow combinations, footwork, and the beginnings of defense through boxing or muay thai. Additionally, students can experience a great workout through drills and exercises to improve conditioning and muscular endurance. This class is catered for students looking to build a strong striking foundation and improve their overall fitness and health.
